Why is Art so Expensive?
It's been a while... But after months of working on my largest commission to date, finally I am able to share it with you...
38" x 56" Oil on Stretched Italian Linen
The image really doesn't give you an idea of the size... It's just under 5 feet wide and just over 3 feet tall and even the smallest marble is bigger than my head, so hopefully you get the idea!
Meanwhile, I hear this question so many times:
Just WHY is art so expensive??
So I thought I might try to explain it by looking at exactly what this painting has cost me, the Artist. But I'm not talking about the price of the canvas, paints and mediums used (all v. expensive btw!)... I mean everything aside from that.
So, it cost me...
So, when you buy a piece of art, it's really not just the art you are buying... You are buying a chunk of the artists life, along with a piece of their soul... and you really can't put a price on that!
Meanwhile, am I glad I took this on?
Painting takes my emotions on such a roller coaster... Sometimes I am flying as high as a kite and sometimes I come crashing down to an all time low... Would I change that? Not for the world... It's these emotions that make us alive!
Q. What's the biggest piece of work that that you have ever painted?
(share in the comments below)
Week in a nutshell...
Planning: A couple of weekends off!
Watching: Marcella The 1st episode was actually quite disturbing though...
Reading: 'Get Even' by Martina Cole (not my usual genre)
Highlight: Several inches of snow! Sherlock (the dog) loved it and my 21 year old son reverted back in to a 5 year old!
