...So now I have your attention, I don't mean infidelity in that sense! Of course not!! I mean, not necessarily being 100% faithful to a subject you are known for... Which, in my case is Still-Life.
Well, what did you think I meant?? ;0)
So I confess, over the last week, I have been straying.
An empty space on my new bathroom wall has inspired me to paint something completely different from my usual subject. And yep. You got it... It's NOT a still life!!
So, when I first started painting, one of the first subjects I decided to tackle, was glass. I knew it was going to be tricky, I knew it was a subject I was scared of, so I knew I had to make it one of the first things I did.
What I didn't expect was to be still painting it many years later and for it to be one of my favourite subjects to paint! It goes to show that when you face your fears, you can really surprise yourself!
Not that I am remotely bored of Still-Life, but it's going to be a bit of fun to paint something less familiar to me and something I'm not so comfortable with. (Well, either that or it'll be a complete disaster, but positive thinking and all that!)
I'm not planning to stray from Still Life for long, in fact I have another on the go as we speak, but I do think it's healthy to stray from our 'arty norm' once in a while and to get out of that comfort zone. It keeps things fresh in the studio, don't you think?
Q. So, what new subject would you most like to try?
